I had never before appeared sad in his presence. So the king asked me, “Why are you looking so sad? You don’t look sick to me. You must be deeply troubled.” Then I was terrified, but I replied, “Long live the king! How can I not be sad? For the city where my ancestors are buried is in ruins, and the gates have been destroyed by fire.”The king asked, “Well, how can I help you?” With a prayer to the God of heaven, I replied, “If it please the king, and if you are pleased with me, your servant, send me to Judah to rebuild the city where my ancestors are buried.
For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things He planned for us long ago.
Do you ever struggle with discontentment? If we’re all being honest, I bet most of us struggle with discontentment from time to time. Just one more question, “Have you found your Holy discontentment yet?” You may be thinking, “What’s that?” Well, Holy discontentment is the fire that ignites your personal vision. It’s the power that motivates people to become self sacrificial and give their time, money, talents and leverage their future to fix something.
Nehemiah’s Holy Ambition was sprung on him when he was just minding his own business. He lived the good life as the cupbearer of the King of Persia. He drove an eight horsepower chariot, wore a Rolex sundial, and if no one spiked the kings food, he had the best gig in town. That’s until his brothers told him about how the people in Jerusalem were suffering and giving up. He couldn’t shake the news. He cried for days, and now he was afraid. His life depended on keeping it together in the presence of the king.
You are God’s masterpiece and he has created and gifted you through His power to make a masterpieces out of the chaos of our broken world. Ask Him to help you find your Holy Ambition.
